The British Society for Cardiovascular Research

BSCR AUTUMN MEETING, 2006

A joint meeting with the British Atherosclerosis Society

Title: "Biomechanical Signalling in Atherosclerosis"
Date: Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd September, 2006
Venue: Queens’ College, University of Cambridge
Organisers: Professor Dorian Haskard, Dr Peter Weinberg and Professor Qingbo Xu
Objectives: Biomechanical stimulation of cell signalling pathways makes a major contribution to cellular physiology in the healthy arterial wall and, conversely, mechanical disturbances are increasingly thought to underlie the development of arterial pathology. This symposium covered current and emerging concepts regarding the molecular and cellular mechanisms whereby biomechanical factors influence atherosclerosis.
Programme: The programme is downloadable here).
Clinical Science have generously sponsored a Young Research Worker's Prize, which was won by Ziad Ali (Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford).
'Tetrahydrobiopterin-dependent eNOS coupling mediates endothelial regeneration and attenuates vein graft atherosclerosis in apoE-KO mice.'
Ziad Ali receiving the Clinical Science Prize from Dr Chris Newman, Secretary of the British Atherosclerosis Society
The BSCR Prize was won by Andrew Bond (Imperial College, London).
'Variation in blood flow patterns around arterial branches with age.'
Andrew Bond receiving the BSCR Prize from professor Barbara McDermott, Secretary of the BSCR
