BSCR AUTUMN MEETING, 2007 |
Title: "The QT Interval and Drug-Induced Torsades de Pointes"
Date: Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September, 2007
Venue: Governors’ Hall, St Thomas’ Hospital, London
Organiser: Michael J Curtis PhD
Sponsored by educational grants from:
Objectives: The principal objective of the meeting was to highlight current issues surrounding drug-induced torsades de pointes and thus it focussed on biomarkers, risk factors and preclinical investigational methods. Furthermore, the meeting allowed individuals active in Industrial Safety Pharmacology to engage with clinical and pre-clinical academic investigators. The meeting generated a focused issue of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (Vol 119, Issue 2, 2008).
Clinical Science have generously sponsored a Young Research Worker's Prize, which was won by Georghia Michael (University of Strathclyde, Glasgow).
'E-4031-induced Torsades de Pointes is potentiated by HMR1556 or ATX-II but is not predicted by action potential short-term variability or triangulation.'
The BSCR Prize was won by Ian Sabir (Physiological Laboratory, University of Cambridge).
'Effects of hypokalaemia on restitution, alternans and arrhythmogenicity in Langendorff-perfused murine hearts.'
